The new year hangover has subsided and we are firmly planted in 2024. It’s time for new playlists to mark off the new year and feel fresh. It’s been warmer than it’s supposed to be so spring cleaning is happening earlier. Fresh home, new sheets, and new music to wash 2023 off of you.

New song

Chief keef ft. Lil Yachty- Say Ya Grace

Chief Keef and Lil Yachty is matchup that you would’ve never thought would merge so seamlessly. The blend of styles is showcased on Lyrical Lemonades new album All is Yellow. Cole Bennet switches from videographer to curator of hip hops new crop of talent. The album has some interesting feature pairings like Teezo and Juicy J. The track and album are some must listens this early in the year.

Underrated discograpHy

Schoolboy Q

With TDE rumored to have a packed year and Kendrick no longer apart of the label, Q has the opportunity to be a top artist of the collective. Q’s catalogue is impressive and rivals Kendrick’s in terms of quality offerings. Commercially he falls behind SZA and Kendrick but the quality of his projects is what goes under the radar. Setbacks is a project I enjoyed during the blog era. Tracks like Fantasy feat Jhene aiko is the perfect riding song that the west coast is known for.

Habits and Contradictions features the hit with ASAP Rocky Hands on the Wheel, another 2010 classic. Grooveline pt 2 feat.Suga Free off of Oxymoron is a groovy Oakland vibe with the west coast legend. The Blank Face LP doesn’t get a lot of praise but is a solid concept album with tracks like Ride Out with Vince Staples & By Any Means. His latest album Crash is has a dark ethos that I enjoy, especially tracks like Dangerous feat Kid Cudi.

Throwback Album

Goldie- Timeless/ Saturnz Return

I recently discovered Goldie and his impact on electronic music. Once a lover of Bjork, the UK DJ legend is known for his graffiti and jungle music. I remember his face, most notably being casted as Bull in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. His album Timeless is a must listen from his catalogue, charting at number 7 on the UK’s album chart in 1995. Goldie’s experimental style is like the perfect soundrtrack for a fifth element movie, exhbited on his track with David Bowie titled Truth of his Saturnz Return album. The rise of the UK music scene demands a respect for the artists of the past which includes Goldie’s contributions with a discography with features from David Bowie and KRS-One.
